چکیده

Differentiation between Reiter's syndrome (RS) and gonococcal arthritis may be difficult, since both conditions are characterised by arthritis and urethritis. Holmes and coworkers156 noted that 13 out of 23 patients who later developed RS were initially thought to have gonococcal arthritis, and both diseases are by no means virtually exclusive. Patients with culture-positive gonococcal urethritis sometimes go on suffering from an aseptic peripheral arthritis unresponsive to antiboitics. Many of them are then found to be HLA-B27 positive and then respond well* to anti-inflammatory drugs, suggesting

Arthritis associated with venereal disease. A comparative study of gonococcal arthritis and Reiter's syndrome.

Although the existence of gonococcal arthritis has been recognized for many years, the clearer delineation of Reiter's syndrome has cast doubt upon the value of many former descriptions of the disease. It is evident that cases of Reiter's syndrome, sometimes with co-existing gonococcal urethritis, have been included in series from which deductions concerning the clinical picture of gonococcal a...

Amyloidosis complicating Reiter's syndrome.

Reiter (1916) described the case of a young army officer who developed urethritis, conjunctivitis, and arthritis after an attack of dysentery. Although Brodie (1818) had described five similar cases, this triad of urethritis, conjunctivitis, and arthritis of non-gonococcal origin has become known as Reiter's syndrome. Since that time a considerable literature has developed about this disease, t...

Gonococcal arthritis--a common rarity.

Swediaur (1819) commented on the lack of previous mention of swelling of the knees as a consequence of 'blennorrhagia' and reported that he had personally attended several patients in whom the arthropathy started from the 8th to the 16th day of the illness; it was not until the turn of the century that gonococcal arthritis was eventually defined as a clinical entity in association with gonococc...

Sixteen patients with aseptic arthritis developing after gonorrhoea and 14 patients with arthritis after nongonococcal urogenital infection have been analysed with respect to clinical course, roentgenological signs, and humoral as well as cellular immune responses to Neisseria gonorrhoeae antigen. Fifty-eight healthy blood donors were used as controls. The clinical pattern did not differ signif...

Ocular Symptoms (Conjunctivitis, Uveitis) in Reactive Arthritis

The reactive arthritis (ReA) is an autoimmune disorder usually induced by the prior infection. Conjunctivitis, urethritis and arthritis emerging after the prior onset of diarrhea were first described by Stoll in 1776. In 1818, Benjamin Brodie described 5 cases of conjunctivitis, urethritis and arthritis with a history of venereal diseases. In 1916, Fiessinger and Leroy described 4 patients with...
